The largest superconducting magnet ever built, in the Atlas detector at the Cern lab, has been powered up successfully. Engineers sent a current of 21,000 Amps round the coils. Atlas will analyze collisions in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which will recreate conditions just after the Big Bang. More about the ATLAS experiment plus a video explaining it.
