If you suffered losses due to Katrina, Rita, or another disaster, then download and study the IRS's 2004 Disaster Losses Kit for Individuals. It includes information, forms, and instructions for claiming your disaster-related losses as a tax deduction. It also tells you how to get replacement copies of tax returns from prior years, which are necessary to qualify for disaster loans and grants from other federal agencies.
