In Search of Utopia: "Exploring the Hieroglyphics of Our Time." Utopia is a group blog with contributors from the left, the right, and the center of the political spectrum. They all seem to be trying to talk too each other, rather than at each other, with a goal to find practical responses to today's political questions.

News Hounds Manifesto

News Hounds started out as something else. "In early 2004, eight middle-aged citizens from different backgrounds and locations around the USA teamed up via MoveOn.org and the internet to volunteer our services for OUTFOXED, a documentary film by Robert Greenwald regarding Fox News Channel. For approximately three months, each of us watched FNC conscientiously for five or more hours a week and posted our findings regarding Fox's self-proclaimed mission of fair and balanced reporting. Appalled by our results, we, who would not meet in person until months later, banded together in cyberspace in concern and outrage over the failure of American media, and Fox News in particular, to relate the news properly. Rather than serve as the public's eyes and ears, Fox and other media conglomerates have become echo chambers for the rich and powerful with whom they have become all too cozy. This blog is an attempt to counter that alarming condition. We believe that a viable democracy depends upon viable media."

The result of Sunday's referendum in France to reject the EU Charter has plunged the 25-nation EU as well as France into crisis. Those problems are likely to deepen when the Netherlands holds a referendum on the treaty on Wednesday because opinion polls point to another heavy defeat.

Karama Karma

Karama C. Neal the creator of So what can I do?, which was highlighted in post here a few days ago has started another great blog, Open Letters. Karama has pledged to write one letter of concern each week.

"It's a small act that each of us can do enact positive social change, hold our elected officials and media accountable and claim person agency. I'll publish some of my letters here, along with the sources of information and other details I use to write them. I hope that you will use the information provided to write your own letters of concern."

I take the time to send my own letters to public officials every couple of months, I don't know how Karama (In case your wondering about her name I found this in a DUNE glossery, "KARAMA: a miracle; an action initiated by the spirit world.", not sure if it is at all related, bit it seems to fit.) , who is a Ph.D. in Genetics and Molcular Biology, finds the time to write these letters once a week and publish daily at SWCID? I know I will be visiting both sites regularly to see what I can do.
